If you have guests arriving at night it may be a benefit to give them a picture of what your house looks like after dark. From it's elevated position this property commands the most wonderful views over the golf to distant hill top towns, each worth a visit. Aquitaine is one of the most beautiful departments of France and arguably produces the best wines. The food of the region is also quite notable and can be enjoyed in numerous good restaurants. Weather you at lunching on the menu of the day or fine dining in the evening, pleasant surprises abound. . . .

Wild boar invade the golf course

Published on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 | by Michael Coyle

There are those who would enjoy a well BBQd wild boar and few who would like to get too close to a live one. They are built like  a tank with shoulders protected with up to 9 cm thick tough skin. The big one in the picture is over a meter high to the shoulder,  probably weighs more than 80 Kilograms and can move at quite a pace changing direction in a flash. They have been getting through the electric fence and causing some damage to the golf course. This family of six were photographed early in the morning 23rd August before the golfers arrived to enjoy their day. They are primarily nocturnal so it is quite unusual to see them during the day, unless they have been disturbed. . . .

Wood the ultimate building material

Published on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 | by Michael Coyle

News article image

We have been using wood as a building material for a very long time and it is interesting to note that it is used widely where weather conditions can be extreme. Iceland is spectacularly beautiful but lacking in much forestation so wood is not so easy to come by as in many other parts of the world. Pity because we know that cold climate woods, even soft wood, make brilliant building material because it grows so slowly and is therefore harder and more cohesive. . . .

Basement storage

The basement of the Aquitaine Vistas show house on Plot number 9 was really a byproduct of the construction method necessary to build on such a sloping site. We decided to turn it into valuable storage area especially for garden equipment. The floor is now fully concreted out with electricity and water connection. Storage, garden shed, play area. The entrance is under front terrace which could well be used as a BBQ space. . . .

This is especially important during the summer as there is so much going on it is difficult to keep up. If you are aware of a special event coming up then please let us know about it lest we miss out.  . . .

The Google Van Visit

Published on Monday, June 19, 2017 | by Michael Coyle

The Google van has been past and taken new pictures of the road and therefore the site of Aquitaine Vistas. It all looks good and the show house is clearly visible. If you log into Google Earth or Google Maps and search Aquitaine Vistas the marker pin will show on the map. Unfortunately the pin is not in the exact position but most of the information is accurate. We have done the edit so in a couple of weeks the pin will be on the entrance road and other items will be updated. . . .

How good is wood

Published on Tuesday, May 09, 2017 | by Michael Coyle

News article image

Sometimes a question arises about the expected life of a wooden building. I think the only way to answer that is to show some information about buildings around the world that have stood the test of time. We also must bear in mid that today we are using this, most resilient, building material with the benefit of the new idea of "lamination" which avoids any warping of the structure. . . .
