Rich in Heritage and Culture

Dear visitor, our aim with this page is to show the many things to do in the area. It can never be an exhaustive guide but rather an expression of our appreciation of the region. It is not by accident that so many British people enjoy holidays and homes in Aquitaine after all it was wane recognised as subject to the English crown and we all learnt in school about King Richard the Lion Heart’s mother Eleanor of Aquitaine who was once probably the most influential and richest woman in the whole of Europe.

It all came to an end with the decisive French victory at Castillon on the Dordogne which is about an hour drive from Tombeboeuf and an excellent day out.

Bastide

If you are passionate about European history? Why not take an active part in the reconstruction of the Hundred Years War by participating in the famous historical battle of Castillon in this beautiful region of Aquitaine in France. Performed on a natural arena encompassing 17 acres within firing range of the original battle ground, 800 volunteers, including 500 actors and 50 horseback riders re-enact the Battle of Castillon. The two captivating hours, filled with stunts, special effects and explosive expertise give you the chance to have an unforgettable epic battle experience ending the 100 years war right in front of your eyes. There are also opportunities to explore the surroundings of this famous wine making region while tasting its best beverages. Eymet.

The township “Bastide” was established in 1270 with some of the original buildings remaining to this day. This is right in the southern part of The Dordogne department of Aquitaine and only about 20 minutes drive from Aquitaine Vistas,

Eyemet

Eymet has many restaurants and other facilities and is a very popular tourist destination. In fact it is so popular with the foreigners that only half the residents are French with about a third being British.
